Poetry Prompt Weekly: It's time to wake up.
It's time to wake up, but how does your morning routine go?

Hello everyone and welcome back for a more normal Poetry Prompt Weekly. Last week I had to structure things differently, and I think that affected the reactions to the prompt. (Aside from it being a difficult one to work with).
But we’re back now with our normal flow state, and in the poll we did last time I had you all pick between times of day. Ultimately, Morning ended up winning, and therefore influencing this week’s prompt.
A new poll will be at the end of this post, so make sure to read all the way through to help shape our prompt next week. Your choice matters.
Please remember: There will be a thread in my subscriber chat to link your poems to. So please make sure to do that.
Before we dive into everything…
Did you know I have a Ko-Fi? Yes, it’s true! On there you can buy copies of my poetry book Inside the Sun and Moon. Or you can get yourself a poetry card, or commission a poem from me.
Buying from my Ko-Fi supports my writing and everything I do here on SubStack. And in April I’m moving from a 40-hour work-week to a 32-hour work-week, so the support is ever more crucial.
However if you don’t have the funds to support me, you can still show your love by reading, commenting on, and sharing my posts here on SubStack. It brings great joy to see you all here!
Your Poetry Prompt: It’s time to wake up, so what is your morning routine?
And for an optional challenge: Set your poem during a camping, hiking, or road-trip. Any place your waking up routine may look different.
Below is my poem for this prompt, you can use it as an example or reference for your own piece:
Sleep has left me for the morning.
Sleep: She whispers gently to leave,
Leaving me to stir and rub my eyes.
She’ll be back– like every-time I grow
Exhausted, and ready for her warmth,
An excuse to dream of other things
Than the plight of tomorrow’s being. So I slowly raise, stretching my bones.
They crack and pop as I rise to my feet,
For the tent has not been kind to me.An earthly smell welcomes me as
I head out of my shelter to join everyone.
Sleep may have left, but that’s okay.
The morning beckons to be present,
Asking for an attempt to be familial.
Then, to join everyone for pancakes by
The embers of what was last night’s fire.I yawn but the daze refuses to take over,
Because now it’s time to be with Awake,
And he has taken over Sleep’s old role.
Through time and time, again and again,
I am here, I am present, and I am happy–
Just as it should be in this place.

A Highlight From Last Week’s Prompt!
Due the nature of the prompt from last week, and everything else that happened with it. There was only one highlight to feature, but that’s okay.
takes the narrative nature of our prompt and morphs it into something wonderful and well-crafted. Described as a retelling, it’s not only magical, but sustains the spirit of what a good story should contain: balance and good development. Overall, I think this was masterfully written and well worth the read. Now before you go, it’s time for this week’s poll:
Like always, this is your chance to help shape and influence the prompt for next week. Choose carefully though, because your choice matters!
Looks like we’ve hit the end of this post, so thanks for taking the time to read all the way through it! I’ll see you next week, but until then I’ll be reading and commenting on your posts— so do keep them coming! Buh-bye now!
