Poetry Prompt Weekly: Imagine Your Anger as a Color.
This week's poetry prompt implores you to explore anger as a color.
It’s a new week, and therefore, it’s time for a new poetry prompt. Last time we did a poll to decide the fate of this weeks prompt, and uh, it ended up being a tie. So I flipped a coin: heads being anger, and tails being boredom.
I guess you can probably tell which one won, but if not, it was anger.
If you like the polls I do in these posts, make sure to stick around to the end to see what’s next. Those are your opportunity to shape the outcome of next week’s prompt, so you don’t want to miss it!
Now before we get started, I wanted to note: Considering how big the response to these prompts are, I’d like to keep things better contained. So instead of tagging me in your post, please link yours in the appropriate thread on my subscriber chat.
Awesome, thanks for doing that, let’s get started!
Your Poetry Prompt: Imagine your Anger as a Color.
I found this one on DraftSparks, but it felt just right for this week’s prompt. And it raises an intriguing challenge, so how will you go about it?
There’s no extra challenge this week, so as long as your piece relates to the theme and prompt, it’s good to go!
Below is my take on this prompt, which you can use as an example:
When Anger isn't Red
Your forehead strains
Furrowed by thickened
Red veins, and sweating
Like a tense workout
At a gym way too busy
To accommodate your
Patience.
But as your hands clench,
Forming into fists
Who are unsure of what
They want to strike,
The color emanating from
You is not a crimson hue,
Nor a black edge.
Instead it is purple,
Mysterious in its outcome,
But lavishing itself in an
Emotion that doesn’t
Want to be there– instead
Forcing itself to be felt,
Whether you asked for it
Or otherwise.
Urging and hoping,
But unsure if you’ll ease
Or finally get the help
You need.
Some Highlights From Last Week’s Prompt: The New King's Coronation.
This one was an interesting one, and a few of you noted as much. I especially had to think about how to go about it. But overall, the responses I got were wonderful.
So like usual, here’s a few picks which resonated with me. But don’t worry if yours doesn’t get picked, I’ll still make sure to like, comment on, and re-stack your piece.
1. The Song of Everlasting by
For the last week or so, I’ve been encouraging
to break out of their roots as a flash fiction writer, and into poetry. But not only did T.P write a phenomenal poem, they did it as a pairing to a short fiction piece, as well!2. The Ballad of the False King by
This piece takes the prompt and gives it a political focus— while not alright saying that’s what it is for. However, the parallels to present events are especially present. And this piece was a really good read.
writes a fantastic ballad, and I think you’ll enjoy it too.3. A Coronation Ballad by
This was a splendid take on the prompt by giving it a more romantic feel, and focusing on a “Beauty and the Beast” dynamic. I didn’t see this one at first, but I’m so glad Maryellen reminded me when she did. This one was definitely worthy of the ballad name!
Now before you go, here’s your chance to influence next week’s prompt:
Like always, your vote matters, so choose carefully. But for now, have a good one! I can’t wait to see what you come up with. I bet it’s going to be amazing. Buh-bye now!
This is such a perfect prompt! I have a story already in mind! Sorry another short story is coming! Absolutely delectable poem, your imagery of changing the color of anger is beautiful! Thank you for not one but two shout-outs for my work! I spent many hours trying to perfect both so they would be hauntingly beautiful! I have read the other story and have come to an agreement with the other story writer haha! I love these highlights they are so inspirational! The polls keep things interesting! Love all of this!
Thanks for sharing mine! The next one is going to be interesting, too. I already have an idea for it.
