Poem: So, this is America.

A poem about recent political events shaping America.

It never came as a surprise, 
How many people never cared. 
We’re so individualistic yet, 
We’re so conforming all the same. 

Look at the masses of people, 
Cheering as Elon does his 
Own Hitler salute on live TV. 

Listen to the insurrectionists who 
Are boasting with pride after 
Their lord pardons them all. 

But never mind the people who 
Died on January 6th as a result, 
Of the ignorance fed to MAGA. 

And who could care about our rights? 
You know, normal people who know 
Just how hard it is to exist on their own, 
Watching their identities be diminished. 

All it takes is a piece of paper, 
Or they’d lead us to believe. 

But it never came as a surprise
That if America had to choose between 
Progress and repeating the past, 
They’d choose the past over and over. 

Even if it means letting the world 
Crumble to support a false prophet–
Who believes he was chosen by god, 
Becoming a millimeter miracle, 
And sent forth to lead his people. 

Yes, it never came as a surprise, 
Because this is the land of the free, 
But only if you fit certain conditions,
Or abide by what he wants.
